EDIT: For those of you who asked to see pictures: [link]
Tonight was a big night for my husband. ![]()
First I have to say, I officially own a formal party dress now. They gave David half the day off to prepare for the graduation ceremony, so he took me out to the closest mall in search of more appropriate attire, and we found a dress and some evil shoes to go with it. I love the shoes, they are pretty and they were 50% off so they were super cheap, but I've never owned/worn pointy heels in my life. So I spent the beginning of the night try to avoid death by shoe mishaps. Eventually I got better at walking in them...but the best part was I blended in with the rest of the formally dressed, and thus was able to avoid too much social interaction. Hurra.
David however pretty much got some center stage action.
He volunteered to be the Master of Ceremonies, which meant he was in charge of giving the introduction speech, introducing guest speakers, instructing the crowd...what have you. I was proud of him for that much, because I know I could never get up in front of a room full of 200 people and do all that.
Then to top it all off, they had a small award part of the ceremony. Three people from his class were given awards in three different categories of achievement. David received the award for academic achievement. He was totally shocked, but he gave an impromptu acceptance speech that made everyone laugh alot. A couple of the higher ups were so impressed that they gave him their coins (It's an airforce thing, everyone keeps a special coin in their pocket everyday that has their rank and squad logo on it, and sometimes when a airman does something that impresses a higher ranking officer or commander, that commander will give his coin to the airman in recognition.)
I think it's great to see him take pride in his achievements.
As part of his award, he received a gift basket (and I think a savings bond). The basket kinda confused me because all but one person in the class was male, and not all of them are married, yet most of the contents were feminine things. There was a coupon book, a $25 gift card, a SarahJessicaParker stationary set, and well over $200 in various celebrity named perfumes, body lotions, after shave, colognes and deodorants. They aren't trial sizes either. ![]()
And now the four day weekend has started. Dave wants to celebrate with lunch at the tempanyaki tomorrow, and this year I really want to see fireworks on the fourth, so we're going to see if we can get down to the other side of the island for that. It should be interesting.

Anyway hope you got to experience fireworks there and again Conrats to David on his achievement... and for you to be able to finally be "formally dressed" .... makes mom smile that you didn't go in your bridal/prom dress you would have been a "real stand out" and non of us ever want to be in that situation

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those who mind.... Don't matter.
It was very formal and professional, which oddly enough made me feel more comfortable than the formal but relaxed atmosphere of the Christmas party. I think because people weren't acting all drunk and stupid and bothering me.
I shall have to get some pictures of the dress up on FB...the ones someone took at the party didn't really turn out.
I miss the fireworks back home. lol David and I have not managed to actually GO to the fireworks yet. Every year I'm either working or we try to go and can't get in because of the sheer amount of people. Though that one year that we walked down the street in Montana and everyone was in parking lots and on store roofs shooting off fire works, that was pretty awesome.
I'm not sure if we'll be going tonight because it's all they way on the other side of the island, and the Navy has officially opened the doors to the public, so there's going to be a lot of people drinking and driving because it's the only fireworks display on the island. And Dave's been limping all day because his knee is injured again.
But we'll see...I might just tell him to forget about it and get some rest.
